What a reward!
The geranium on the windowsill is blooming, small white flowers with a tiny red, I felt quietly satisfied.
After years of failed overwintering, this is my first success keeping geraniums alive and blooming indoors through winter. It isn’t easy to get water, light, and temperature right.
As the days gets longer, the sun climbs higher, and the light grows stronger. The plant responds the changing light with the new buds and blossoms. Its a seasonal marker!
Bloom at the barbershop
A decade ago, I passed a small barbershop on a bitterly cold winter day. Through the window, i saw a meter-high potted geranium, blazing with poppy-red flowers. The image has stayed with me ever since.

A geranium has far more to offer than we often assume. Even in a small barbershop, with patience and care, it can be transformed from a humble plant into one with stunning blooms. Sadly they’re often discarded at the end of the season.
