Wonderful writing as always. I’ve never been able to grow morning glories very well. Isn’t it funny how certain things do well in some yards and not others? And I think you know by now that I love your graphics and I actually sit here and study them.
Cheryl, thanks so much for taking the time to read my post! I'm glad you liked the graphics. I was hoping to share some fun insights on this humble plant. Though, to be honest, the graphic didn’t quite turn out how I imagined. It might’ve raised more questions than it answered ☺️ I'll try to do better next time!
I love your sketches; and learned so much about the morning glory from you! Thank you for a great lesson in not only botany but history as well! Great post, very informative.
I’m sorry you are not growing your morning glory, I would appreciate your thoughtfulness if I was your neighbor but I’d never want you to stop growing your own flowers to protect mine. :( Maybe you can find a way to grow them next year…
The trumpet flower, I can relate to this name. Interesting to know the color changes due to pH level change. And I like that simple beauty as you described. Indeed, the simple beauty brings simple pleasure.
Well, well, there you go, I had no idea my birth flower was a Morning Glory. I think your neighbour was being a bit petty, she could have cut it back on her side of the fence if it was a problem. We have a Star Jasmine on part of our back fence, an area we couldn’t get anything to grow all that well, it has decided it also likes our neighbours side of the fence, but I just noticed she has just cut it back, and she has never complained.
I just started outdoor gardening then, I wasn't sure I could keep the morning glory from spreading, and I would have felt awful if it had harmed their cherished roses and memories...
You are a very thoughtful neighbour, respecting other people’s plants and the stories behind them.🙂 I hadn’t thought about the reasons for colours changing…interesting.
My neighbour is the dreaded 'council' and they don't care about their trees causing a nuisance so I'm left to manage them myself.
If only you was my neighbour, you'd have those suckers pruned and shaped in no time 🫶
I wish you were my neighbor, i could’ve been enlightened and inspired, and started my sketching journey way earlier😊

My neighbor is a nature lover and has taught me a lot about gardening..
